Description

A SPECIAL COLLECTION OF SIGNED LETTERS, CERTIFICATES, AND CARDS FROM DIGNITARIES IN WASHINGTON DC INCLUDING CONGRESSMEN, PRESIDENTS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, AND OTHERS ALL ADDRESSED TO A SINGLE INDIVIDUAL IN 2008.
That individual was William Philip "Alex" Alexander, son of Congressmen Bill Alexander from Arkansas. From Wikipedia on Bill Alexander:
"William Vollie Alexander Jr. is a retired American politician who represented the U.S. state of Arkansas in the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 1993, rising to the post of Chief Deputy Majority Whip."
Alex became an Eagle Scout in 2008, and in support and recognition, many of the friends of Congressmen Alexander sent Alex this large collection of signed letters and certificates.  All of the items were specific congratulations relating to the attainment of Eagle Scout, nearly all naming Alex in the letter, certificate, or note.  Needless to say, an issue for these signatures is their authenticity - were they secretarial signings or actually hand signed by the individual?  Of course I cannot make any assertions about authenticity, and did not make any attempts to authenticate.  However, I can make a few comments that seem fair to make:  1) Nearly all the items looked to have live ink, with the single exception that ... 2) the cards which include signatures of the Bushes - George & Laura, George & Barbara, and Jimmy Carter, were not authentic hand-signed autographs; they were probably stamped or printed on the cards, 3) the Congressional signed letters in which there is additional markings and writing on the letter by the signee were likely to be authentic hand-signed letters, and 4) most if not all of the signatures from individuals outside of government are likely to be authentic - such as those from private citizens like Rudy Giuliani, from institutions like the Wakefield School.
