    Description

This is a signed letter by
    Bruce Fairchild Barton
    (1886-1967), who
    was a U.S. Representative
from New York from 1937 to 1940.
Barton worked as a publicist and magazine editor
    before
    co-founding the
    Barton, Durstine & Osborn
    advertising agency
    in 1919. Later, the agency
    became
    Batten, Barton, Durstine & Osborn
    (BBDO).
Barton became president of BBDO in 1939. He
    headed
the BBDO agency until 1961, and played
    a major role
    in establishing Madison
    Avenue in
    New York City as
the center of the advertising industry.
Among other famous BBDO campaigns, Barton
    created the character
    of
    Betty Crocker
    .
Barton was also a popular writer. He wrote many
books, plus hundreds of magazine articles
and syndicated newspaper columns. Most of
these writings promoted a synthesis of Christian
ideas with a pro-business attitude. His most
    well-known book is
    The Man Nobody Knows
    .
The letter is dated October 10, 1951.
This letter is typed on a sheet of Barton's
stationery, with a Madison Avenue address.

    from JG Autographs.
The letter and the COA are enclosed in a plastic page,
    which is open
at the top, allowing easy access, while
    keeping the letter protected.
