ORIGINAL 10.5" X 8", AUTOGRAPHED LETTER and official CAMPAIGN BROCHURE:
US CONGRESSMAN DeWITT S. HYDE
Letter is hand-signed by Congressman Hyde in blue ink on lower-right (see pic),
DeWitt Stephen Hyde (March 21, 1909 – April 25, 1986) was an American congressional representative from the sixth district of Maryland. Beginning in 1952, Hyde was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-third, Eighty-fourth, and Eighty-fifth Congresses, where he served from January 3, 1953 to January 3, 1959. In 1959, he was appointed as an associate judge of the District of Columbia Court of General Sessions (which became the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in 1971).  Hyde served as Judge until 1979, when he retired. Autograph is sharply written in blue ink.
The letter is written on Congressman Hyde's official stationery.  The letter refers to a signed photograph, which I do not have; however, the letter has his autograph.
The Official 1954 Campaign Brochure measures 8.5 inches by 7.5 inches, with 2 photos of the Congressman.  He won the 1954 election.
This letter was hand-signed in ink.
The signature appears to be authentically hand-signed, as the blue ink is bright and reveals many variations in ink color and thickness.
These 2 items are both from a local estate -- an autograph collection from Smithsburg, Maryland.  A young girl had requested politicians' autographs in the 1950's to be mailed to her, and she received this one from Congressman Hyde's Washington DC office in 1953.
The letter will be sent to the winning bidder, included with the 1954 campaign brochure.
