A744. This is an interesting letter for all autograph collectors to consider. Why, because little is written about this man or perhaps I just don’t know where to look for his information but I’m batting near zero on him. I did finally find out who he is after searching--
    Mass.
government-- but still little was written about him. He was born in the year 1895 but had no death date and that he served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1930 through 1943. That’s it, that’s all I could find on the man. Now the hand written letter to Miss Kate Harrison is another story. I knew Miss Kate Harrison (and Miss Ann Harrison) and she was a lovely lady and school teacher. She and her sister Ann Harrison (also a teacher) lived together and neither ever married or had children and they were the sweetest and loveliest of people. Miss Kate and Miss Ann lived beside my family and when it was time for them to move to a safer place as they were both around their 90’s (and this was around the late 1980’s or early 1990’s) and they asked us to help them with the move. They left us what they didn’t want and I purchased some porch furniture from them and cleaned up the house for the realtors. I knew them for many years and it was my great pleasure to know them. I and my family often fixed their furnace and air conditioner and any thing else we could do to help them. They often rewarded us with ice cream. Now I do not know the true relationship between Miss Kate and Mr. Knowles perhaps just college friends or related, brother?
I’m not sure there is no one left to ask and I can’t remember. It would be fun to research this and find the missing links that brought Mr. Knowles to write to Miss Kate on that day. He mentions Doc Carter and Mrs. Brown! He mentions that his legislative duties begin on Jan. 6
    th
and that he has plenty of leisure time before then. He says he believes that Miss Kate will not be in
    Washington
for the event and sends regards to her sister Ann. He bids her farewell with—“See you soon John”. The letter and envelope is completely hand written by John Quincy Knowles and the letter is dated---Dec. 31, 1936 and the envelope is dated Jan 2, 1937. The letter and envelope is on his personal stamped stationery and both are clean and are in very good collectible condition. It is written in black fountain pen ink. It is with some difficulty that I had in translating his hand writing but can read most every word. The envelope is post marked---“
    Hingham
, Mass, Jan 2, 1937”. This letter has been folded to fit the envelope. Thank you for looking and please visit my other vintage autographs.
