UP FOR AUCTION:ORIGINAL 8 X 10, AUTOGRAPHED PHOTOGRAPH:
US SENATOR JOHN MARSHALL BUTLER
Hand-signed by Senator Butler in blue ink on lower-right side (see pic).
Also included in auction: Original, 1950's/1960's "Butler for Senator" pinback button.
John Marshall Butler (July 21, 1897 – March 14, 1978) was an American lawyer and politician. A Republican, he served as a United States Senator from Maryland from 1951 to 1963. He lived nearly his whole life in Baltimore. (from wikipedia)
Autograph is very large and written in blue ink. The 2 lines measure approx. 4.5 inches wide
by 1 inch high. The 8 inch x 10 inch photo is a very sharp Black&White photo-portrait, but the
autograph is somewhat difficult to read on the background of his dark jacket.
Photo is a Black and White portrait photograph by photo studio: Fabian Bachrach.
It measures 8" x 10". It has a white back side.
This photo was hand-signed in ink by Sen. Butler.
The signature appears to be authentically hand-signed, as the blue ink is very bright and reveals many variations in ink color and thickness.
It is part of a local estate with an autograph collection from Smithsburg, Maryland. A young girl had requested politicians' autographs in the 1950's to be mailed to her, and she received this one from Senator Butler in 1953.
